Christ our Righteousness
Dressed in Christ's spotless robe of righteousness, His wife has made herself ready for the marriage: "And to her was granted that she should be dressed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints."---Revelation 19:7,8.
Notice, throughout the Bible, a woman represents a church. God
says: "I am married unto you."--Jeremiah 6:2.
And the apostle wrote: "I have espoused you like a virgin¹ unto
Christ."--2.Cor11:2 That is because of the cleansing blood of Jesus
and the power of the Holy Spirit that the Bible calls every born
again Believer a Saint. A corrupt woman or church such as pictured
in Revelation 17, is the Great Mother Whore because of her involvement in politics
which is enmity with God [see James 4:4]. Babylon stands for
self-righteousness and is steeped in idolatry. Worshipping humans
such as mother Mary and the saints with statutes and images is
forbidden by the second commandment. This must include all Catholics
and Evangelicals who keep on sinning and do not keep the holy law of
God. State churches are by their very name and nature the enemies of
God [see James 4:4].
Jesus says that only a few will find eternal life.---Matthew 7:14.
"That He may sanctify and cleanse it
with the washing of water by the word. That He might present it to
Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such
thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish."---Ephesians
5:26,27. Only through God's holy word can we experience the
sanctifying and cleansing from sin and not just the cleansing blood
of Jesus alone. We are saved by the death of God's Son, but much
more by His life.--Romans 5:10
Q.: How much is much more? Firstly Christ's sinless life is written to our credit, and secondly Christ's ministry of intercession in the heavenly Sanctuary helps us to grow up into Him. This is sanctification which is never apart from justification and God is doing the cleansing here and restoring God's image in man. Christ's righteousness in place of man's sinfulness. Salvation is a free gift and calls forth in us and from us, a love response.
The word righteousness actually means right doing. The Bible tells us of only two types, self-righteousness we have inherited, and Christ's righteousness which is enabling grace. All Theologians also differentiate between imputed and imparted righteousness. All Bible verses are in red: "There is none righteous, no, not one." "We are filled with all unrighteousness." "All have sinned."---Romans 3:10; 1:29; 3:23.
Christ is Our Righteousness by faith alone
- Christ was treated as we deserve, so that we might be treated as He deserves. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death that was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. "With His stripes we are healed."--Isaiah 53.
The good news of the Gospel
- The doing and dying of our Lord Jesus Christ is written to the sinners account. We now can walk out of our prison house of sin. This is imputed righteousness written to our own account. Because friendship with the world is enmity with God [James 4:4] that we must detach ourselves fully from the world first before we can attach ourselves to Christ 2.Cor.6:17. Jesus does not save us "in" but "from" sin [see Matthew 1:21].
" Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the Scriptures [Bible], foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, in thee shall all nations be blessed."---Galatians 3:6-8. Note, Abraham kept 'all' of God's commandments.---Genesis 26:5 Long before Mt. Sinai and before the first Jew was born. So the holy law of God existed before but became part of the Mosaic law after the exodus from slavery.
How do we obtain Christ our righteousness? By faith alone. How do
we get faith? "Who has believed what he
has heard from us? So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by
the word of God."---Romans 10:16,17
Notice that hearing is repeated and what Paul means is, you heard us and what you heard is from the words of God [Christ]. This verse is an important statement of the nature and source of true faith. Genuine faith is not blind faith or of any denominational faith. Prayerful Bible study will give you strong faith and fulfilled prophecy unshakeable faith in the word of God. Those who are married to the Lord Jesus Christ know how faithfully He is caring for them.
" What shall we say then? that the
Gentiles [non Jews], which followed not after righteousness, have
attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law.....for they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."----Romans 9:30-10:3
You notice that we have to submit ourselves to Christ our righteousness and with that kind of right doing overcome the defects of our characters by the power of the Holy Spirit. Those who attained to righteousness were those who Paul had preached the gospel to.
The very same teachers that speak of instant sanctification today avoid
the words holiness and piety and godliness which is God likeness. It is no longer the
"in" thing. It is
very easy to be saved. Justification by faith, i.e. Christ our
righteousness is our ticket to heaven! But where is our fitness for
heaven? God is a consuming fire. He that wants to be a Saint in
heaven, must first be a Saint here on earth!
Christ our Righteousness is also at work with imparting His own righteousness into us. We admit that the majority of Christians play on the imputed part of Christ our righteousness alone and want nothing to do with the imparted righteousness. They forget that, while salvation is a free gift, we are saved for no other reason than to do good works: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.--Ephesians 2:8-10.
You'll notice here that we have to be re-created from above in order to be God's workmanship. All throughout the New Testament the Lord Jesus Christ is said to be our Creator God and therefore Lord of the Seventh-day Sabbath [Saturday]. The true Lord's day.
Righteousness is the opposite of sin
"Awake to righteousness and sin not."---1.Corinthians 15:34
"That you put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man of sin, which is corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, which after God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth."---Ephesians 4:22-24.
What is sin?.
"Sin is also the transgression of the law." "I had not known sin except the law that said, Thou shalt not covet."---1.John 3:4; Romans 7:7. "For He [God] that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you do not commit adultery, but you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty."---James 2:10-12. Why are the Ten Commandments called the law of liberty? Because Jesus Christ sets us free from sin which that law points out to us.
Modern Christianity has now fallen [apostatised] gone over to spiritualism because they no longer define sin and therefore their sins are stockpiling up to heaven [see Revelation 18].
Three unclean spirits are seen in Revelation 16 as the three major players, The Mother church, her daughters the fallen Protestants all united by false tongues of spiritualism and occult powers doing signs and wonders. Satan and his ministers are transformed as angels of light [2.Cor.11:14]. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. [2.Tim.3:5] Prophesied for these last days.
We are suppose to have the mind of Jesus, therefore sin must become repulsive to us as well as Him. Sin is concerned with a man's will rather than his nature. Thus sin is defined as choosing willfully to rebel against God in thought, word, or action: "Whosoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him/her it is sin."---James 4:17 [RSV]. In the New Testament gospel, sin is our willful choice to exercise our fallen nature in opposition to God's will.
"Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle
of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with
us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According to His divine power has given unto us all things that belongs unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness. And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacks those things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fail. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."---1.Peter 1:4-11
Notice: There are some who think that they
have been made righteous which then becomes self-righteousness
again. Righteousness is by faith only. We are servants of
righteousness and not owners. See Romans 6:18.
¹Note, Jesus told the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25. The two classes of watchers represent two classes who profess to be waiting for their Lord. They are called virgins because they profess a pure faith. By the lamps is represented the word of God [Ps.119:105] and the oil is the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
The class represented by the foolish virgins have been content with a superficial work. They do not know God. They are not hypocrites. They have a regard for truth, but they have not fallen on the rock Jesus Christ, and permitted their old nature to be broken up. They have been baptized, but they are buried alive. Self did not die, and therefore they did not rise to walk to newness of life [Romans 6].
Lukewarm people upset Jesus [see Revelation ch.3].
